Why Alpha funding?
We want to get Wetware in to the hands of players as fast as possible, but we also want to ensure that we create a solid, polished game. Alpha funding is the perfect compromise, as it means that players get to provide continuous feedback to improve the game while playing it themselves.
What can I expect from an alpha?
A game with missing or incomplete features and no shortage of bugs and balance issues. There's a chance the game might not even run on your PC correctly. You buy in to an alpha to support the future development of the game, and help us catch issues as early as possible to ensure a solid, polished game upon final release. If you want your first experience of Wetware to be untainted, you should hold off until the game is out.
Where does the money go?
All money goes straight back in to the game, and the result of that can be seen in the regular updates that are available to anyone with Alpha access.
What's the release/update schedule?
There's a roadmap on the forum detailing a rough outline of what we plan to do in the short to medium term, with an update typically every few weeks. Development is ongoing and will not be stopping when 1.0 is released in the coming weeks.
How does modding work?
All of Wetware's content is written using a combination of Lua and JSON. Anyone can mod the game to add in anything from simple mutators that grant more money per day, to full-blown campaigns. Mods don't require a special copy of the game, and the documentation for the API will be made available after official release. Upon releasing on Steam, Steam Workshop support will be added allowing you to distribute your creations more easily.
Where's it being released? Steam?
Wetware has passed Steam Greenlight, and will be coming to Steam at the time of its release.
What are the system requirements?
Windows: Vista, 7, 8.
OS X: 10.7 or above.
Linux: any 64-bit distribution.
In all cases, any moderately powerful/modern machine should be able to run Wetware. At this time it is unlikely that Wetware will run on any type of netbook or some older video cards which lack OpenGL 3.1 support.
